PAXTON'S BIRTHDAY, FRIDAY 23, 2011:

I woke up at 5:15am, and just as I rolled out of bed, my water broke! I was so tired as I forced myself awake, as I only slept 1-2 hours that night. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't sleep that night, as I was so tired from a busy week at work, but I just couldn't fall asleep. I now think it was some type of "nesting" energy that kept my mind buzzing & my body wide awake. But when my water broke that morning, excitement took over, and fatigue escaped me! I couldn't believe I would soon be meeting my very own sweet baby boy!!

My water continued to break while waiting on my doctor's office to open, so I could call in. Contractions started at 7:45am, and I called my doctor at 8:30am. The nurse told me we needed to head on to the hospital. Yay!! Shane and I made sure we had everything loaded, and we kissed Violet goodbye, telling her we'd soon return with her baby brother!! With a trash bag covering my seat, we left for the hospital at 9:00am. My water continued to break. Gush, gush, gush.

When we arrived at the hospital, my pants were completely drenched! When we checked in, the nice lady at the desk said they were expecting me. They sent me to triage and got me suited up. It was so nice to get out of my soaking pants! They hooked me up to monitor contractions and Paxton's heartbeat. My nurse gave me the unfortunate news that EVERY room was filled and that I'd have to wait in triage until the next room opened up. Not what I wanted to hear. She said they were cleaning a room then so that they could get me in ASAP. My contractions strengthened. They were now 2-3 minutes apart. I wanted in my room!! I was quite uncomfortable in triage because I could hear everyone around me ... lots of noise & distractions. Not what I had in mind for my labor. I wanted to be in my room where it would be quiet, and where I could focus on getting through my contractions.

They finally moved me to my room a little after 12 noon. My contractions were getting unbearable! They were 2 minutes apart and stronger than ever! My nurse asked if I wanted an epidural. I said I'd wait a little longer. Within a minute I had my next contraction ... I screamed for the epidural! But I wanted to be at least 4-cm dilated. I was, thank goodness. So they inserted the epidural and started me on some pitocin. My contractions were still really strong, so they adjusted the epidural ... heavenly! I couldn't believe how great I felt!! Everything seemed to fly by after that. Every time my nurse checked me, I'd be 2-cm more dilated. No one could believe how quickly everything was progressing.

I started pushing around 4:00pm. On my first push, my nurse said, "we better get your doctor in here very quickly!" She left to check my doctor's ETA, then returned for a couple more pushes. My doctor arrived and watched as I gave another round of pushes. Her eyes widened to the size of golf balls! She couldn't believe how close I was to delivering! She rushed out & rushed back in to suit up. I pushed just a little while longer, while they gave great encouragement. At 4:39, my beautiful baby boy came into this world!! I looked down and couldn't believe how big he was!! Shane said he was amazed how fat his cheeks were! The doctor said, "wow, we have a big baby here!" Shane cut his umbilical cord, and Paxton let out just one short round of crying. I was crying out of excitement, but then out of worry because Pax wasn't crying anymore. The nurses assured me he was perfectly fine & healthy. He was just a quiet baby. He didn't make a peep while they quickly cleaned him up and assessed him. Everyone was waiting with much anticipation to see how much he weighed. They placed him on the scale and chuckled. They told me to guess his weight, but all I could do was smile. They announced "9-lbs. 1.2ozs." WOW!!

They placed him in my arms, and it was the GREATEST moment of my life!! Paxton was a true gift from God!! I hugged & kissed all over him. He was MY baby ... MY baby!! My family & friends all came rushing in. My mom started crying with me. It was such a wonderful moment!!

Shane was PERFECT through the whole labor. I am truly, truly grateful for how wonderful he was. He is the most amazing husband and daddy! God has blessed me with the most fantastic two guys in this whole world!! I love you two boys so much!!
